My writing for About.com about model horses ended in September, but as luck would have it, at almost the same moment I received several emails from collectors who said, "Are you going to start a model horse hobby magazine? You would be the perfect person to do it!"
I was reluctant to say yes at first. When I was a kid, I published a little photocopied magazine for model horse collectors. It was a lot of work and when I stopped publication I felt bad, like I let people down.
Today is a different story, however. With over 20 years of professional writing and editing experience (along with marketing experience) and more years than I can count of model horse collecting experience, I think I'm in a better position now to publish such a periodical than I was when I was 13. (Hey, ya think?)
So.....the Model Horse Quarterly is born.
It will be 32 pages or more to start with, and will be ready for purchase by January 2012. Here's the neat thing though: I can offer it for sale in three versions. Full color print, black and white print, or color PDF (to download and read on your computer.) Better still, you can pay for EACH issue separately. So let's say you're mad about collecting Beswicks, and I have a great issue on Beswick models. You can buy that one as a full color printed book and pay a bit more. But the next issue it's all about tack making, and while that interests you, you're not as crazy about it as Beswicks. For that issue, YOU choose to pay and download the PDF only.
It's that simple!
So far, Holly Lenz has designed the logo. Cindy Neuhaus will contribute updates on The Lakeshore Collection. Kollean Gouyton said she's good at making up puzzles, so I've asked her to put on her thinking cap and come up with some fun stuff. I've asked a few collectors to contribute articles and photos. Advertisements will be FREE for the first issue or two, but I am limiting the ads to 10 per issue.
