Some of you may know that I wrote for About.com for the past year about model horses, and published well over 150 articles ranging from an introduction to the hobby to hairing techniques for Breyers. My contract with About ended in September, and since then I have been hard at work planning three new model horse books and getting ready to launch the Model Horse Quarterly, a new hobby magazine.
Micro Mini Model Horses
I'm re-releasing Tiny Treasures: The World of Micro Mini Model Horses as two books, hopefully by the end of November. I've drastically overhauled the book, especially the section on the original Creata model horses, after discovering that my good friend Candace Liddy still had all the prototypes, unreleased original models, and tons of Creata history locked up in her studio. What a find! She helped me so much with the book by photographing tons of original painted prototypes and even some never-before seen micro minis from Creata. So the new book will have over 20 pages of color photographs of the original micro minis.
The second book takes the articles by Katrina Michaels and myself on all sorts of micro mini crafts - painting, prepping the pewter ones, and new articles by me on making props for micros and photo showing backgrounds and stuff - and breaks it into a second "How to" book.
I hope you enjoy them both. My target publication dates for both are November 30, but it depends on my full time works schedule and committments.
The Lakeshore Collection Model Horse Guide
I don't know about you but I love the Breyer model horse collector's guides and find them invaluable. So when I approached another good model horse friend, Cindy Neuhaus, and said, "Hey, let's do a collector's guide to The Lakeshore Horses!" she was all for it. Cindy provided pictures and this one is going to be a huge reference volume of all the gorgeous, glorious china Lakeshore horses you can collect, from the original limited edition colors to the beautiful Raku models produced as part of the Art of Fire line. I don't know when this book will be done, but probably not until early 2012.
The Model Horse Quarterly
Don't forget The Model Horse Quarterly. It's a sort of hybrid between a magazine and a book that I'll be producing four times per year, starting in January. Each issue will be based around a theme and will include articles, photos, ads and more. I'm keeping advertising FREE for 2012 until we know about how many people buy it; classified ads will be free for as long as I can keep them that way. The magazine/book will be available in paperback full color, paperback black and white, and Adobe Acrobat PDF form for folks on a budget. Learn more here - The Model Horse Quarterly.
So lots of great stuff flowing from my computer keyboard and into publication soon.
